Mobile network operators recognise that customer experience plays a key role in customer retention. LTE 4G promises a higher end-user experience with faster data rates. But, the complexity of new smart devices and new network technology means that in order to achieve this, extensive testing of mobile devices prior to market introduction is becoming more imperative. Performance testing devices in a lab-based environment which replicates ‘real-world’ conditions and scenarios enables operators and device manufacturers to be more confident that their product will meet end-users expectations.
Performance testing plays a significant role in operators’ device acceptance programmes. The Global Certification Forum (GCF) is now starting to introduce performance testing as part of its conformance certification scheme. The mobile device ‘ecosystem’, consisting of device and chipset manufacturers, mobile operators and independent laboratories, is calling for precise, automated, repeatable and reliable performance tests to measure and optimise parameters such as data throughput, impact of signalling, audio quality and radio performance.
Anite offers a comprehensive portfolio of performance testing solutions for chipset and device manufacturers, network equipment manufacturers and mobile network operators for all stages of the development life cycle. Chipset and device manufacturers conduct performance testing to ensure their products meet the requirements of device certification schemes administered by industry groups such as GCF and PTCRB (using Conformance Toolset) as well as those set by mobile operators (using SAS – Anite’s interoperability test solution). Anite’s Propsim® channel emulation solutions are used for test scenarios where a more specialised channel emulation capability is required such as with MIMO OTA (Over-The-Air) testing. Propsim channel emulators are also ideal for use where there is a need to test performance with network infrastructure components.
Mobile operators use SAS and Propsim channel emulators to verify the quality of experience end-users expect from their new LTE mobile devices.
As the mobile telecoms industry continues to deploy LTE, LTE-Advanced and future capabilities, Anite will further develop its industry-leading performance test solutions to help optimise the user experience.
